KENCHI & NAOTO make drama debut

Following USA’s news about his movie debut, KENCHI & NAOTO also make the entrance to drama world. Here’s the news.

KENCHI (30) and NAOTO (26), both members of the popular group EXILE, are making there drama debut in a mobile phone series on BeeTV. 

The two will co-star in “Genryo Boxer,” a comedy about a pro boxer (KENCHI), whose unstoppable appetite has kept him out of the ring as he never passes the weigh-in, and a younger boxer (NAOTO) who lays “traps” of food for him. 

The series will start on BeeTV on November 1.

USA makes film debut

EXILE member USA (32) has been cast in his first movie. He will play the male lead in “Kyoto Uzumasa Koimonogatari,” a project being co-directed by Yoji Yamada.

The film is a collaboration between the studio Shochiku and Ritsumeikan University, where Yamada is a guest professor. The project was first announced in October 2007 with the goal of developing new talent for the industry. 22 students were involved in the movie, which started shooting last month.

“Kyoto” is a love story set in the city’s Uzumasa district. The protagonist is a young woman played by actress Hana Ebise (23). USA plays her love interest, an aspiring comedian whose family runs a tofu shop.

Theatrical release is scheduled for spring 2010

Congratulations!!!  So far, nearly half of EXILE members were casted in small and big screens.  I wonder who will be next.

EXILE to Perform in Front of Emperor Akihito

This is very very big news for EXILE and for the fans, I believe.

On November 12th at the plaza in front of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, a public ceremony celebrating the 20th anniversary of Emperor Akihito’s reign will be held. EXILE will perform a song commemorating the occasion in front of His Majesty.

The song’s lyrics will be written by music producer Akimoto Yasushi, well known for the lyrics he provided for Misora Hibari’s ‘川の流れのように / Kawa no Nagare no yoni [lit. ‘Like the flow of the river']‘. On October 13th EXILE leader HIRO and others will attend a press announcement for the ceremony and will reveal details there.

It has already been decided that a large public screen will be placed. People are interested not only in the group’s singing but also the impressive and intricate dance routine performed by all 14 members. At the end of last year EXILE won the Japan Record Award at the 50th Japan Record Awards.

Their two best hits albums sold over a million copies, proving that the group has become a household name. EXILE is also popular among a wide range of ages. They being well known and supported by many different people probably led to EXILE being chosen as the artist to perform the important song.

EXILE endorses FRAN

In addition to Makidai x Fran endorsement last couple months, yesterday, the new TVCM with EXILE endorsement has been posted on FRAN website.

To celebrate Fran’s 10th anniversary, EXILE has been selected to the product endorser.  Airing CM appears to have only HIRO and TAKAHIRO versions which you can find it on Fran website as well as the Making.

If ~I know~, EXILE’s newest ballad composed by ATSUSHI, has been used for this TVCM.
